Feathercoin (FTC), also known by the symbol ₣, is an open-source cryptocurrency that was launched on 16th April 2013. It was built on the Litecoin protocol, but has since undergone a successful fork to establish its unique network. Using an open-source cryptographic protocol, Feathercoin manages the creation and transfer of coins in an entirely decentralized manner. This means that no central authority regulates their activity.
Feathercoin uses the Proof-of-Work NeoScrypt hashing algorithm. This makes it 25% more memory-intensive and less feasible for ASIC mining. Therefore, Feathercoin puts it emphasis on being a faster, more secure, and stable version of Bitcoin.
Feathercoin was created by Peter Bushnell, who, at that time, was working at the Brasenose College of Oxford University. Peter Bushnell developed this coin while he was running the IT department of the college, but he left his job one month after launching Feathercoin and lived off his Litecoin savings. He was motivated to develop a coin with the benefits of Bitcoin, but with improvements in terms of speed, security, and stability.
Feathercoin functions similarly to most cryptocurrency networks – it's based on a blockchain, a shared public ledger that holds the record of all transactions. Any new transactions are broadcasted to all nodes in the Feathercoin network to confirm the validity. Once confirmed, these transactions become part of the blockchain and cannot be altered or deleted.
It uses the Proof-of-Work (PoW) concept for its consensus mechanism. The mining process involves solving cryptographic puzzles using either processors (CPUs) or graphics cards (GPUs). Since Feathercoin uses the NeoScrypt hashing algorithm, it cannot be mined with an ASIC card.
Feathercoin can be mined using either processors (CPUs) or graphics cards (GPUs). Due to the hashing algorithm of FTC, it can't be mined with an ASIC card. As a consequence, Feathercoin mining has a relatively low entry point and much faster compared to other cryptocurrencies.
You can download the necessary mining software from the official Feathercoin site. They also offer various wallets for FTC, including versions for desktop and mobile.
While traditional currencies can be physically stored in a wallet, digital currencies like Feathercoin have to be stored in a software-based digital wallet. For your safety, use only the official Feathercoin wallets, which can be found at the bottom of the coin's official homepage.
These wallets are available for different operating systems, including Android, Linux, macOS, and Windows.
As of now, the market cap of Feathercoin (FTC) stands at $ 1.7M. This makes it the #2657 largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization.
Feathercoin is available on various cryptocurrency exchanges. For a full list of these exchanges, you can refer to Bittrex, Dove Wallet. Always ensure to use a trustworthy exchange platform for cryptocurrency transactions to protect your digital assets.
