Question 2

What is Rootstock RSK (RBTC)?

Accepted Answer

Rootstock RSK, denoted by the symbol RBTC, is an open-source smart contract platform that has a two-way peg to Bitcoin. It's designed to enhance the Bitcoin ecosystem by introducing the ability for smart contracts, almost instant payments, and increased scalability. RSK is not pre-mined and does not mint its own coins. The platform aims to continue the legacy of Bitcoin's pioneers, adding new features while keeping Bitcoin's original vision intact.

Question 3

Who created Rootstock RSK?

Accepted Answer

The name of the creator or team behind Rootstock RSK is not provided. However, the platform is made available through the website rsk.co and has a community of developers and miners who contribute to its continued development and security.

Question 4

How does Rootstock RSK work?

Accepted Answer

RSK is secured by a process known as merge-mining, that enables it to achieve a comparable level of security to Bitcoin in terms of the prevention of double-spending and settlement finality. In the initial stages, the security of the two-way peg relies on a federation holding custody of bitcoins, but it will eventually switch to an automatic peg once the community agrees on the necessary security trade-offs. Furthermore, RSK is designed for scalability and can handle up to 100 transactions per second, which is comparable to PayPal. Notably, RSK employs probabilistic verification and fraud proofs in addition to blockchain sharding techniques to maintain this level of scalability without compromising its decentralization or unnecessarily utilizing storage and bandwidth.

Question 5

What Makes Rootstock RSK Unique?

Accepted Answer

What makes RSK unique is its dedication to enhancing the functionality of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Unlike other platforms that are creating their own separate ecosystems, RSK seeks to add value to the existing Bitcoin network by introducing features like smart-contract capability, near instant payments, and more extensive scalability. RSK utilizes innovative protocols like DECOR and GHOST to create blocks at an average interval of 10 seconds, resulting in a low stale block rate and virtually instant payment confirmations. This opens up new use cases for Bitcoin, such as payments for retail stores or transactions in online games.
